title: "Introducing HexName: A practical approach to subdomain management"
subtitle: Understand what our service does and how it works
description: HexName is a DNS and dynamic DNS service that allows users to register subdomains, manage advanced DNS records, and host real-world services reliably.
---

# Introducing HexName
HexName is a DNS and subdomain registration service designed to be simple, limit-free, and genuinely useful. We focus on providing aspiring homelabbers and others with a reliable domain infrastructure - with more freedom than anyone on the market.

At its core, HexName enables users to register and manage subdomains under a curated set of parent domains, and configure extensive DNS records for operating real services such as servers, websites, and email - all from a simple platform.

While you might have seen our About Us page and noticed a certain pattern, we do not compromise on the quality of our service. Our priorities will always be providing a useful product with a high uptime.

## What HexName Offers

### Subdomain Registration
Each user can register up to **20 subdomains**, chosen from the following parent domains:
- `hexname.com`
- `loves-beer.com`
- `dickdns.org`

These subdomains are fully functional and intended for production use.

### DNS Management
HexName allows up to **200 DNS records per subdomain**, supporting the following record types:
- **A**
- **AAAA**
- **CNAME**
- **TXT**
- **MX**
- **NS**
- **SRV**

This makes HexName suitable for a wide range of use-cases, including:
- Hosting websites and blogs
- Running game servers
- Configuring custom mailservers
- Service discovery and infrastructure routing

Users retain fine-grained control over their DNS configuration, enabling setups that go beyond basic domain forwarding.

### Dynamic DNS (DDNS)
HexName also provides a **Dynamic DNS service** for A records.

This allows users with changing IP addresses, such as those on residential or non-static connections to automatically update their DNS records at regular intervals. The service is ideal for remote-access situations, or exposing self-hosted services to the public. With DDNS enabled, a HexName subdomain remains a stable access point even as the underlying IP address changes.
